I did this run at the Brushy Creek trail extension at Twin Lakes while Lori walked the dogs.  The GPS watch was off for a portion of the run, hence the incorrect distance below.  This is probably my last run on this course until they open it in March because they have erected fences at the bridges to discourage use until opening day.

Today Lori and I explored a park near our house that we had never known about.  It's a 1 mile trail that includes a historical site, which is a log cabin built in 1859.  We took the dogs with us and walked the length of the trail and back, which parallels a year round creek.  Later in the afternoon I did this run from our house to the park.  It's about 2.5 miles to the trailhead, and about a mile on the trail one way.  It was a very nice warm and sunny day for February and I felt pretty out of shape.  I've got to start running more.

Ha! Yeah, I didn't even run the 3M half Marathon last week (the first time I haven't run it if I was in Austin) because I didn't want my time to show how slow I've gotten. I'm quite pleased to see how much you've gotten into the groove. Good job man!

I don't know if this google pedometer map will show up, but today I did a run that started at 3M and proceeded into the River Place neighborhood.  This is a really ritzy neighborhood that overlooks the Colorado river and has 30 mile views for most of the run.  It has a long downhill stretch going down into the vally and a long uphill stretch coming out that really took the wind out of my sails, but it was a great run.  I need to stop doing this once or twice a week stuff because being in pseudoshape makes these runs too hard.

Today I ran at the Sandy Creek Park.  I was looking for trail there, but only found small trails that went from campsites down to the lake.  I ended up following a dried up cove of the lake up a dry creek bed for a mile or so until it came out on Lime Creek road, which I followed back to the park.  On the way home I saw what looked like a large, close meteor come down.  It was very bright and burning and trailing black smoke.  It broke apart on the way down and each of the pieces was burning as they fell.  I don't know how close it was or if it struck the ground.  It was probably much further away than it looked but it was the best meteor I've ever seen.

As Paul Harvey would say, "Now, for the rest of the story". This link http://www.physorg.com/news154028868.html is about the meteor I saw on Sunday. It describes it as a pick-up sized chunk with the consistency of concrete coming down. I live in Williamson County Texas, the county mentioned in this article.

From flatlander on Fri, Feb 20, 2009 at 01:24:05

Hi Bob,

I moved from Austin to Salt Lake about 3 years ago, but I will always love Austin since it is where I got hooked on running around Town Lake. I saw the story about the meteor on the national news and I knew it had to be in Austin because there were quite a few runners in the video. Anyway, it's great that you were able to see it in person.

Today was my first day back after a week in Minneapolis and this morning we had to take Abbie to the vet and have her put to sleep.  She had developed a large tumor on her spleen and was bleeding internally in it and becoming more anemic every day.  Even with surgery and chemotherapy the prognosis was only going to be 2 months, and it wouldn't have been a good 2 months.  For years she had gone trail running with me every day up until the past couple of years when she got too old. Today I ran a figure 8 loop on the trails in Steiner Ranch while Lori walked Maggie on one lobe of the route.

Tonight I ran with a coworker in the UK who took me on a trail run in the moors east of Northallerton.  We started in a little town called Osmotherly and climbed up to the highest points, about 1000 feet above the surrounding land.  We were running in fields surrounded by stone fences with sheep and cows just a few feet away and unconcerned by our passing.
